How do we ensure proper hygiene at sea?
Seahealth – Hygiene – 2012
Proper hygiene at sea
Seahealth is a work environment council for seafarers that seek to contribute to a safer and more efficient maritime environment. They wanted to make it easier for shipping companies and crew agencies to ensure that their employees working with food at sea have proper hygiene education. They also needed an easy way to upgrade the seafarer’s certificates to make documenting and complying with the MLC 2006 convention simple and convenient.
Exercises that activate the users
Working closely with Seahealth, MOCH provided a certificate course in general food hygiene. The course is approved by the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries and covers the training requirements that are mandatory for all employees involved in the preparation of food; internal control (including critical control points and monitoring procedures), general microbiology, principles of hygiene as well as Danish food law.
Authorised to work
The course ensures that it is easier for shipping companies and crew agencies to ensure that their employees are formally authorised to work with food at sea. The employees gain knowledge and insight in the proper way to handle food hygienically, and they also get an understanding of their own role in ensuring food safety.
